National Science and Math Access to Retain Talent (SMART)

Program Type

Need-Based Grant

Purpose

To assist qualifying third and fourth year students with additional funds for study in critical areas.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the SMART grant, you must be:

U.S. citizen
A Pell Grant recipient
Enrolled full-time
Have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA
Be majoring in one of the following:
- physical, life, or computer science
- engineering
- mathematics
- technology
- a critical foreign language

Value

Up to $4,000.00.

Application Procedure

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Some colleges may also require applicants to complete the college's financial aid application. Each participating college sets their application deadline date.

Other Information

The amount of SMART grant in combination with Federal Pell Grant and other financial aid cannot exceed demonstrated financial need.

Eligible students will be notified in late August.
