Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

Purpose

To provide undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional financial need with federal grant assistance toward the cost of attendance at eligible public and private colleges/universities and technical colleges.

Eligibility

  1. Demonstrate substantial financial need as determined by federal need-analysis methodology;
  2. Be enrolled in an eligible public college, university, or technical college as an undergraduate student seeking a college degree or technical certificate/diploma;
  3. Must not have earned bachelor's or graduate level college degree;
  4. Be a U.S. citizen or national of the U.S. or have evidence from INS of eligible permanent resident alien status;
  5. Be in compliance with Selective Service registration requirements;
  6. Not be in default or owe a refund on a federal financial aid program;
  7. Maintain satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the college.

Value

The maximum FSEOG award is $4,000 per year. Each recipient's award amount varies depending upon the expected family contribution compared to the cost of attendance, the number of hours in which the student is enrolled, and the policies of the financial aid office of the college.

Application Procedure

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Some colleges may also require applicants to complete the college's financial aid application. Each participating college sets their application deadline date.

Other Information

Pell Grant recipients are given priority for FSEOG funds. Each participating college is allocated a set amount of FSEOG funds each year.
