| CAMPUS SUMMARY |
 |
Brenau University was founded in 1878 as the Georgia Baptist Female Seminary. In 1900 the institution was purchased by Dr. H.J. Pearce and renamed Brenau, a linguistic blend formed from the German word "brennen," meaning "to burn," and the Latin word "aurum," meaning "gold." Thus, Brenau means burned or refined gold and is symbolic of the institution's motto, "as gold refined by fire." Brenau College became Brenau University in the fall of 1992 by vote of the board of trustees, a name change that reflects the comprehensive programs of study, the diverse student body, the graduate programs and the regionally acclaimed faculty. Brenau’s 50-acre main campus is located in Gainesville, Ga., approximately 50 miles northeast of Atlanta, at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Brenau University maintains evening and weekend satellite programs at five other Georgia locations: Athens, Atlanta, Augusta, King’s Bay and Waleska. |

| UNIQUE/SPECIAL PROGRAMS |

Brenau University, a historic private comprehensive university, encompasses two colleges with complementary missions:
The co-ed Evening and Weekend College (EWC), geared toward a growing population of working adults who are returning to school, offers online degree programs and classes to a population of students who are unable (or unwilling) to attend campus-based classes. The EWC, founded in 1972, also offers 5 additional class locations across the state of Georgia (Atlanta, Athens, Augusta, Kings Bay, and Waleska).
The Women's College, located on the picturesque main campus in Gainesville, Georgia, has catered to single-gender education since its founding in 1878.
These two Brenau divisions, distinct yet complementary, offer diverse educational opportunities founded in the liberal arts and business, which lead to intellectual and professional development, foster personal growth, and encourage community responsibility and global understanding. |
